Regulator, Instructions for Use |
|
General When using the gas in any cylinder for beer, wine, soda or seltzer applications the cylinder pressure must be reduced from the internal cylinder pressure to the working pressure recommended for the desired application. Regulators in the beverage dispensing industry are available in primary regulators (which directly reduce the cylinder pressure to some lower pressure) and a secondary regulator( which will further regulate the output of a primary regulator to the desired application pressure.) Safety Please read these safety precautions before proceeding to use any regulator. Whenever you work with pressurized equipment follow all safety requirements to avoid damage to people and equipment. • Never connect any beverage regulator to an oxygen cylinder. It will cause an explosion.
Use only the equipment designed for the application. • Always keep workplace clean and free from dust and oils. • Frequently check equipment for leaks. This will save you a lot of money if you find a leak
before your cylinder is empty. • Never connect a regulator to a gas cylinder before making sure the pressure adjustment
screw (or knob) is in the (no pressure) full out adjustment position. This is fully
counterclockwise and sometimes loose position. • Always secure the gas cylinder to insure it does not fall over. • If the pressure relief valve on the regulator activates turn off the gas supply immediately
and replace or send the regulator for repair. • All beverage gases are odorless and tasteless and are capable of suffocating a person or
animal if leaking in a closed area. If you find a leak leave the area immediately and
ventilate the area. • Be sure the gas cylinder is secured to prevent its falling over. • Before connecting the regulator open the cylinders valve to clean any contamination form
the valve. • Turn the pressure adjusting screw or knob to the fully counterclockwise position (0
pressure setting) and close the shutoff valve is it is present. • Check the cylinder valve outlet and the regulator inlet for damage on the seating surface. • Mount the regulator on the cylinder and tighten with an appropriate sized wrench with the
gauge(s) facing you and the outlet facing down. • Connect the regulator outlet fitting to the product or secondary gas hose. • Open the cylinder valve to the full open position and check for any leaks. • If there is a shutoff valve on the regulator open it to the outlet hose. • Slowly adjust the adjustment screw or knob by turning it clockwise until the desired
operating pressure is indicated by the output gauge on the regulator. • If you later require a lower pressure setting reduce the outlet pressure to below the new
desired pressure by 5 psi by turning the adjustment device counterclockwise. When the
pressure stabilizes turn the adjustment device clockwise to the new setting. • Shut of any beverage dispensers • Close the cylinder valve • Set the regulators adjustment screw or knob to the full counterclockwise position (0
pressure) • Remove the regulator by unscrewing the nut connecting the regulator to the cylinder
using a proper fitting wrench. You may hear a small amount of gas escape as the nut is
loosened due to trapped gas in the high pressure side of the regulator and the cylinder
valve area. • Set the regulator in a safe place while the empty cylinder is exchanged with a full one. • Remount the regulator as described beforehand. Return to Top of Page.
